Mallorca calls out racist abuse

Madrid won Saturday’s match 1-0, courtesy of the French midfielder’s second-half goal.

While the Madrid players celebrated Tchouameni’s goal, a young fan was seen making monkey gestures.

The fan then threw a plastic water bottle onto the field, and Madrid players quickly showed it to the referee.

Mallorca said in a statement that they are now ‘collaborating with the National Police’ to identify the said fan.”

The club added they didn’t want the “isolated case” to tarnish the identity of Mallorca fans.

“RCD Mallorca does not and will not tolerate any manifestation of racism and actively participates in all campaigns to eradicate this scourge that goes beyond sport,” it wrote.

“Once again thank the fans for their exemplary behavior. Let an isolated case not tarnish the respect and sportsmanship of Majorcanism.”

Real Madrid’s experience towards racism

This isn’t the first time a Madrid player has experienced racial abuse in LaLiga, let alone at Mallorca.

A Mallorca fan also chanted monkey noises towards Vinicius Junior last year.

Both Vinicius and the fan appeared before a judge during the investigation.

The Brazil international has been the subject of such racist gestures multiple times this season alone.

Mallorca recently competed in the Copa del Rey final, which they lost to Athletic Club.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid lead the league with an eight-point advantage over defending champions Barcelona.

Mallorca are currently 15th in the table, six points above the relegation zone.
