Real Madrid 2-1 Getafe – Game Highlights
The host was behind within only 11 minutes as former star Borja Mayoral struck first. It took Carlo Ancelotti’s side until early in the second half to finally equalize, thanks to a goal from Joselu.
Bellingham did what he has done the best – score a late goal as the midfielder completed the comeback five minutes into added time.
This was Madrid’s fourth win in four games, putting them five points clear at the top of the Spanish top flight.
Madrid-based Getafe did not include on-loan Mason Greenwood in the squad after the new signing arrived in the weekend. However, the visitors had a brilliant start when 26-year-old striker Mayoral finished calmly after beating Kepa Arrizabalaga and Antonio Rudiger near post.
Real Madrid thought they could draw the game level in the first half, but VAR reversed the decision and did not hand the penalty. Luka Modric came close with his header tipping over the bar.
The second half came with a twist when the host found the equalizer, but only after it took VAR a lengthy check within two minutes when Joselu fired home from close range after a decent cross from Modric.
The search for a perfect run and a winner went on for Madrid; Bellingham took the slim chance when Nacho’s shot was saved by David Soria, and the British talent successfully converted it.
The 20-year-old’s first goal at the Bernabeu means he has scored in every game so far this season and is La Liga’s top scorer with five goals. He scored a double in a 3-1 comeback at Almeria two weeks ago.
The match was also the first played under a retractable roof at the stadium, with Real starting the season with three away games while the building work was completed.
