Alonso leaves Barcelona

The Spain international’s contract will expire this June.

However, Barcelona has no plans of offering him an extension.

Romano said that Alonso’s decision to leave Camp Nou is final anyway.

It is uncertain which club the 33-year-old will end up with, but there are likely to be plenty of clubs willing to take him on a free transfer.

Struggles in La Liga

The Catalan giants acquired Alonso from Chelsea on a free transfer in 2022.

However, the left-back standout has made only four LaLiga appearances this season.

Alonso’s back injury only prevents him from playing meaningful minutes under Xavi.

He last played way back in November in the Champions League defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Alonso has played just seven games across all competitions and has a total of 299 minutes overall without goals or assists.

Barcelona will only have Alejandro Balde as their only senior left-back going forward.

Meanwhile, Barca aim to permanently acquire Joao Cancelo, who is presently on loan from Manchester City.
