La Liga Week 32 Recap: The Great Comeback may seal early title
Getafe 1-2 Villarreal: Revenge is done for the Yellow Submarine
La Liga Week 32 Recap: Villarreal beat Getafe 1-2, at the opponent’s ground. Goals by Trigueros (7’) and Gerard Moreno (16’) in less than 20 mins of the first half soon sealed 3 points for Unai Emery’s side.
Moreno had a productive day in the office. The Spanish forward assisted Trigueros very early in the game, then hit himself decently to score the 2nd goal.
Enes Unal scored a nice goal, but it was anything but a consolation one for the host.
Not only 3 points won, but Villarreal also had their revenge in the sweetest way. Getafe beat Villarreal by the same score early this season when the two clubs met at El Madrigal.
After this game, Getafe, despite the defeat, is still safe at the lower half of the table with 32 points, while Villarreal is edging closer to the European cup’s spot with 49 points.
Sevilla 2-3 Real Madrid: Benzema completed an amazing comeback
It was the highlighted game of Week 32, or maybe, the game of the season, as the result might decide La Liga’s title. 2nd-place Sevilla host top-spot Real Madrid at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on the 18th of April.
And it was one thrilling show with 5 goals and late drama.
The home team showed their determination in the race with a very clear strategy: play to win this game.
And Julen Lopetegui’s side succeeded with 2 goals in a matter of only 4 minutes, from 21’ to 24’.
Ivan Rakitic’s stunning free-kick and then Militao’s mistake 3 minutes later helped Rojiblancos take the lead 2-0.
However, Carlo Ancelotti’s genius substitutions changed the game in the 2nd half. Rodrigo (replaced Camavinga at 46’) scored at 50’ and Nacho (replaced Vazquez at 81’) equalized at 82’ bringing the game back to the start. And who else, but Karim Benzema completed the comeback with the 92th-minute close-range shot, following Rodrgyo’s assist. Earlier in the 74th minute, Vinicius Jr’s goal was dismissed by VAR, with a handball decision that was a bit controversial.
Real did it again, in dramatic fashion, to defeat Sevilla and expand the gap to 15 points and only 6 more games to play. La Liga 2021/22 may very well end early after Madrid’s victory.
