The capital club needed Fede Valverde and Marco Asensio to score late to grab three away points at Osasuna.

Los Blancos was without some key players, as the likes of Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos were rested ahead of the ElDerbi de Madrid in days.

That’s why Carlo Ancelotti’s side was struggling, but still managed to press on Barcelona in the title race.

League standings after MD22

No changes up front as the summit remained with 8-point gap between Xavi’s side and Ancelotti’s side. Meanwhile, Atletico is chasing after La Real, with another win can potentially see Los Colchoneros temporarily taking the 3rd place.

Real Betis is not far from a top-four position with 37 points.

The bottom three group includes Valencia, who has been in deep crisis with five consecutive defeats, Getafe and Elche.

Girona who thrashed Almeria by scoring six goals at home, remained in 11th place. With 33 goals after 22 games, the modest club from northeast Spain has the third most potent attack in the 20-team competition. Only Real Madrid (44) and Barcelona (43) have scored more.
