Barcelona 2-4 Girona: The dark horse rose atop
The defending champions thought they had momentum after the victory at Atletico Madrid. Still, then this season’s dark horse, Girona, proved that they are serious contenders for the title.

Girona’s rise to the top may have taken many by surprise, proving that they have the quality to stay the course. Meanwhile, Barca drifted even further despite remaining in the top four, for now.
Real Betis 1-1 Real Madrid
Real Madrid had a golden chance to open up a three-point gap at the top of LaLiga before Girona took on Barcelona in their all-Catalan clash on Sunday. However, Manuel Pellegrini’s Betis proved to be a difficult side to break down.
Los Blancos was actually lucky not to leave the Benito Villamarin empty hand on Saturday. Two points dropped for Carlo Ancelotti’s men despite Jude Bellingham’s scoring streak continuing.
Bellingham continued his remarkable start at Real Madrid by scoring his 16th goal in 18 games – but it was not enough to earn the La Liga leaders victory over Real Betis.
The England midfielder slotted in after controlling a delightful pass from Brahim Diaz over the Betis defence after 53 minutes.
But Ruibal responded decisively 13 minutes later to prevent Real from opening a four-point advantage at the top of the table.
