The two clubs have already made their offers to the 15-year-old Portuguese wunderkind.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are also committed to training Varela in his final teen years before he graduates.
Once he makes it to the first-team squad, expect more teams to attempt to sign him up.
BOTH CLUBS HAVE EYE FOR HIGHLY-RATED YOUNG PROSPECTS
Varela is not the only young player eyed by both Barcelona and Real Madrid as the summer transfer window nears.
Both clubs sought teen prodigies from South America recently, particularly Endrick and Vitor Roque.
Franco Mastantuono and Claudio Echeverri were also eyed by the two sides before the latter went to Manchester City.
Portugal is the same producer of world-class players from Rafael Leao to Antonio Silva, and Joao Neves, among others.
VARELA’S STAR CONTINUES TO RISE IN UNDER-17 LEVEL
Varela is comfortable playing as a left winger but can also play on the right flank.
Known for his lethal pace and vision, the Portuguese teen is representing his country at the under-17 level.
As part of the Portuguese U-17 squad, Varela tallied two goals in 14 matches.
He has also played three times in the UEFA Youth League this season.
Varela also caught the eye of several teams and their scouts through his play for FC Porto’s U-17 side.
Atletico Madrid, Man City, inter Milan, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Dortmund, and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in Varela.
Multiple reports have said that Varela’s move away from FC Porto is likely, thus the rising interest from several clubs.
