Barcelona – Reveal plans for Joao Felix after agreement with Atletico Madrid
Barcelona have accepted an agreement on Joao Felix with Atletico Madrid after the winger impressed during his loan spell, per Catalan-based outlet Sport.
Felix has performed astonishingly in all competitions since joining La Liga’s reigning champions, Barcelona.

Multiple departs during the summer left manager Xavi Hernandez short of options for his attacking lines, with Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Ferran Torres as the first-team forwards in the squad. That’s why the club decided to bring want-away Felix from Atletico as loanee for the entirety of the 2023/24 season, with no option to buy.
The Portuguese was coming on the back of a poor loan campaign at Chelsea, and the expectations could have been higher. However, Felix has started his new life brilliantly, having scored three goals and two assists in nine appearances so far.
How can Barca work on the payment under crisis?
Under severe financial distress, Barcelona cannot pay that amount upfront to Atleti in the summer and is considering two ways out of this problem.
Sport also explained two plans to solve Felix’s heavy transfer fee.
Firstly, Barcelona are considering paying that amount across three installments, which amount to around €25 million each.
While this would make the transfer a ‘little less impossible,’ Barcelona still think it is not in their best interest to invest €80 million in just one player.
Therefore, the other way Barcelona can end up signing Felix is if they reach an agreement with Atletico on another loan stint, with an obligation to buy him in the summer of 2025.
This operation would likely require Barcelona to pay much more than the €400,000 salary they are paying to him and could also force their hand into paying a loan fee like Chelsea did last season.
The report states that Felix could be available for around €40 million in this scenario, which is a much more realistic scenario for Barcelona.
