Diego Simeone’s men beat their visitors 3-1 on the Monday night game, but the celebration was intercepted by the club’s captain having an injury.
What happened – Koke suffers from hamstring
Less than 10 minutes into the new La Liga season, the 31-year-old was forced off with an injury, which was eventually confirmed a hamstring.
According to the sources in Madrid, the Spanish midfielder will have to rest for at least the next three matches, meaning he will miss Atletico’s fixtures against Real Betis, Rayo Vallecano, and Sevilla at a minimum.
Atletico Madrid’s issue in midfield
Argentinian boss Simeone is still looking to reinforce the midfield, which looks light at the moment; now it is even more delicate with Koke’s injury.
The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Marco Verratti have been identified as targets, but there has yet to be anything solid from the Madrid-based side.
Atletico Madrid’s Sporting Director, Andrea Berta, may well be expediting his search for a new signing following Koke’s injury. The veteran midfielder will be absent until the end of the summer transfer window, so Simeone will have fewer options to choose from until a new signing comes in.
