2022-23 LaLiga week 7 preview: Sevilla vs Atlético de Madrid
It feels like forever since the last time a LaLiga match has been played. However, the international break was no period of rest with UEFA Nations League A determining which teams advance to the knockout rounds and Leagues B to D wrapping up.
But what is important is that domestic club football is back. For this week, we are featuring Sevilla going up against Atlético de Madrid this Sunday at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
Overview
Back on week 6, Atlético Madrid conceded the Madrid derby to their bitter rivals, 1-2. It did not help that goal scorer Mario Hermoso was sent off during stoppage time.
Meanwhile, Sevilla ended up deadlocked with Villarreal, 1-1. Álex Baena provided the match-tying conversion at the 51st minute.
Their respective UEFA Champions League campaign could not be any more different. Sevilla FC have not yet scored a goal in continental competition this season. On the other hand, Atleti have three points courtesy of a win over Porto.
Back in the domestic side of things, both sides are worse off compared to their position last season. Atlético are currently at seventh with ten points (3-1-2), and the Sevillistas are on the bottom half with a sole victory and two draws to show.
Stats
Sevilla are 1-1-1 at home in LaLiga contests this season. Their last two matches in front of their supporters have been losses. To be fair though, these were against Barcelona and Manchester City.
The Colchoneros, on the other hand, have been having good form away, with two Ws and a draw. Their only loss so far was against Bayer Leverkusen at the UCL.
What is amazing is that in their last six head-to-head encounters, there have been more draws (three), with Sevilla taking two of the rest. They are also 2-1-0 at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Prediction
It is hard to say how many goals will be scored in this fixture. Because even though Sevilla have conceded a lot and could not clinch one themselves, there are times they are able to hold off the opposition from scoring a flurry against them.
Atlético are easier to call, as the only time an opponent had a clean sheet on them was versus Leverkusen.
