2022-23 LaLiga week 6 preview: Atlético Madrid vs Real Madrid

It is Madrid derby time!

Which side would win this LaLiga showdown? Which club would be the kings of the capital until they meet again?

We will attempt to answer these questions and more in our preview.

Both clubs are coming off midweek UEFA Champions League matches against German clubs. Host Atlético de Madrid lost to Bayer Leverkusen, 0-2. Real Madrid, on the other hand, continue their winning streak with a 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig.

Prior to that, they had similar 4-1 outcomes in their respective last league matches. Los Blancos are immaculate so far, accumulating 15 points in five matches. Atleti are not far behind with ten points but are currently in a logjam with Villarreal and Athletic Club on the domestic table.

The Colchoneros are 2-0-1 at Estadio Metropolitano in their last three matches, their defeat was against Villarreal back on week 2. The scored at least two goals in those victories.

It goes without saying that Real Madrid have not dropped an away fixture since the season formally started in August. The have also been prolific, their lowest output on the road being two goals.

Their last four head-to-head meetings have come up Real Madrid two, Atlético one, and one draw. The most recent had the Colchoneros prevailing, 1-0.

Those four contests have not gone past two goals scored combined, which means predicting the over/under would be quite a challenge. Heck, it would be even hard to call who would come out on top after regulation.

Fancy a draw and the first occasion that Real Madrid would drop points this season?
