Both clubs are coming off midweek UEFA Champions League matches against German clubs. Host Atlético de Madrid lost to Bayer Leverkusen, 0-2. Real Madrid, on the other hand, continue their winning streak with a 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig.
Prior to that, they had similar 4-1 outcomes in their respective last league matches. Los Blancos are immaculate so far, accumulating 15 points in five matches. Atleti are not far behind with ten points but are currently in a logjam with Villarreal and Athletic Club on the domestic table.
