2022-23 LaLiga week 4 preview: Valencia vs Getafe

Valencia CF and Getafe CF have built quite an interesting rivalry, and it all started with one contentious Copa del Rey matchup just a few years ago. Will there still be fireworks in this week’s LaLiga contest between the two?

Overview

Neither side had the best of starts in the 2022-23 season of LaLiga. Getafe have only managed one point after three weeks: a scoreless draw with Villarreal last weekend. Meanwhile, the only positive result Valencia have at this point is a 1-0 win against Girona on opening week.

Stats

Things were never the same since the two clubs met at the quarterfinals of the 2018-19 Copa del Rey. More than half of their meetings after the cup competition have been draws, building more tension to their encounters.

During the same period, Los che have won only once against Getafe at the Mestalla, three ending up deadlocked after regulation.

They average almost three goals scored total per contest between them. However, the range is between zero and six goals, the variance making it difficult to make a call on the over/under.

Including preseason friendlies, VAL have won two of its last three home matches. The same cannot be said of the Azulones’ latest performance on the road.

Prediction

It is hard to be confident with Getafe’s chances, based on their recent form. But one thing that can be taken away from this budding rivalry is that their matches are unpredictable. Stats do not matter in games like these. This means, if you are the risky type, might as well go for the underdog.

That said, whichever side comes out on top of this encounter could potentially turn their season around.
