Xavi, 42, told reporters that he would step down from his post if his expectations for Barcelona were not fulfilled this season.

The Catalans were up 2-1 after a six-minute apart goals from Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal.

However, Oihan Sancet scored an equalizer in the 49th minute, which paved the way for brothers Inaki and Nico Williams to seal the deal for the Lions.

The loss effectively ends Barcas’ hopes of lifting a trophy this tournament.

Xavi remained firm on his vow that he would resign as head coach if he couldn’t provide a title for the ball club.

“I say it again now: if we are not at a competitive level at the end of the season, I will leave,” he said.

Despite the disappointing defeat, the Barcelona legend commended his young players for putting up a fight.
It is worth noting that Xavi’s team consists of recent La Masia academy graduates including Lamine, Hector Fort, and Pau Cubarsi.
“We have competed very well against a great team that is very strong at home. I already said that the [quarterfinal] draw wasn’t good,” said Xavi.
“They are very intense, it is very difficult [to play against them].”

Xavi said that Barcelona will now focus on their La Liga and the Champions League campaign,

A winning season, or a trophy this season, might salvage Xavi’s job in Camp Nau.

“We have to rebuild ourselves and compete in La Liga and the Champions.”
