Entered the game with an opponent that they have never lost in Spanish top flight for years, Los Blancos was full of confidence.
Ancelotti rested Luka Modric and Toni Kroos on the bench, but it was not making the home team less effective in their game.
Asensio had a shot deflect over the bar, while Aurelien Tchouameni and Karim Benzema took turn to deliver some close signs for a opening goal.
Late in the first half, Vinicius Junior gave a low cross from the left and found Asensio, who clipped the ball into the right corner to break the deadlock.
This is the Spanish attacker’s eighth goal of the domestic campaign and the seventh assist for Vinicius.
A thunderous header from Militao doubled Madrid’s lead in the 48th minute as he darted in to convert Asensio’s in-swinging corner from the right. This is the Brazilian defender fifth league goal this season, and they are all from headers.
Celta’s marksman Iago Aspas attempted for a goal but his shot was wide over the home team’s bar. Karim Benzema almost made it 3-0 as his header was brilliantly blocked by Ivan Villar inside Cetla’s post.
The two goal advantage was secured and Madrid came out to win their 16th game against Os Celestes, with an impressive run after 18 games in the La Liga (W16 D2).
A win and a a fine squad for coming tough weeks
This outcome was not exactly unexpected. After all, Madrid came into the game having not lost any of their last 17 matches against Celta in LaLiga (W15 D2).
Besides three points, Ancelotti’s side showed how impressive their squad depth is as they are preparing for hectic run of games in the next six weeks, in all competition.s
Coach Ancelotti made five changes, with only one of them forced on him by an injury to David Alaba, and those who came in, including Asensio, proved worth their place.
