Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona: A night to forget for Los Blancos
It was almost 7 years ago when Real Madrid suffered such a heavy loss against Barcelona at Bernabeu, but last night, the nightmare reappeared.
Real Madrid host their rival Barca in the second El Clasico of La Liga 2021-22. A head of this battle, Los Blancos was on the 5-game-victory streak against Barca, in all competitions.
But last night, it was a totally different story.
Barca had their first goal at 28’. Ousmane Dembele beat Nacho on the right flank, following was a perfect cross found by Aubameyang’s precise header, only minutes after the Gabon striker missed his chance at close range.
Dembele was impressive again as he had his 2nd assist in this game at the 37th minute, by delivering Ronald Araujo’s goal from a corner. Real was two down after the first half.
The absence of Karim Benzema, due to injury, did hurt Real Madrid, as the host struggled to either score or create chances in the first 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, Xavi’s squad continue to score their 3rd and 4th goal, even to put an ‘early end’ to this game before the one-hour mark.
Aubameyang was the man of the show as he provided an assist for Ferran Torres to hit the 3rd goal, only 5 minutes after the 2nd half started.
The former Arsenal’s striker went on to finish his double, after a beautiful chip in less than 5 minutes when he assisted Torres.
2 goals, 1 assist, what a debut El Clasico for Aubameyang as no Barca player could do the same in 21st century in the Clasico’s history of all competitions.
No more goals were scored from either side. With this defeat, Real Madrid will still be standing at the top spot of the league table, but their ego was greatly wounded. And with Barcelona, they can be singing about this victory for the coming days as International Breaks starts from 21st of March.
Sevilla 0-0 Sociedad: Frustrating rainy night at Sánchez Pizjuán
Sevilla looked to keep their La Liga title challenge alive when they host Real Sociedad, on MD 29, an opponent that they never lost to, in 7latest encounters.
The host also wanted to get back their confidence, after being eliminated by West Ham, at Europa League knock-out round.
However, it was a cold, rainy and frustrating night for Julen Lopetegui’s squad, as Sevilla shared points for the three consecutive games in the Spanish league.
It could have been worse for Sevilla, because the Sociedad was the better side, with better chances to score. Alexander Soerloth almost had his opening goal, 6 minutes to the interval, if it was not for his own teammate’s block at the near post.
David Silva and Adnan Januzaj had their chances, but either Sevilla’s post, or their defenders and keeper prevented the goals from happening.
Held without a goal at home, Sevilla lost their chance to close the gap with Real Madrid, as Los Blancos was defeated 0-4 by Barcelona at Bernabeu. Meanwhile, Barca is breathing fire to Sevilla as the Catalan club could claim 2nd place on the table, with one game in hand.
