Barça’s Robert Lewandowski finally October’s finest

FC Barcelona have ended a long wait for the LaLiga Player of the Month award, as Robert Lewandowski finally won it for the month of October, after being in the shortlist in the first two months 2022-23 season.

The Polish striker was the first for a Barca player since Lionel Messi in February 2021, in which he beat out the likes of Atleti’s Antoine Griezmann and last month’s winner Fede Valverde of Real Madrid.

Also nominated for the month were Espanyol’s Joselu, Rayo Vallecano’s Isi Palazon, Real Sociedad’s Brais Mendez and Valladolid’s Sergio Leon.

Lewandowski continued to shine for Xavi’s side, in which he remains the league’s top goal scorer with 13, five more than Betis’ Borja Iglesias who took the first POTM award in August

He fired in five goals and dished out two assists in six league matches in October, in which they won every single one of them except for their El Clasico defeat where he assisted Ferran Torres with his backheel flick.

On FIRE. Robert Lewandowski is tearing it for Barca since arriving in the summer.

Right after their loss at the Bernabeu, Lewandowski hit a first-half brace in their 3-0 win over Villarreal on Matchday 10, in which he added two more in their next pair of league matches. He then showed his clutch genes for Barça in their away win at Valencia, scoring the lone winner in the 93rd minute.
