Real Sociedad de Fútbol, SAD, are a Basque football club from San Sebastián. Established in 1909, the squad plays at the Anoeta Stadium, which has a capacity of 39,500.
One of the founding members of La Liga, Real Sociedad won the league twice. They finished second in 2002-03, their highest placing since going all the way in consecutive seasons in 1980-82. They won the Copa del Rey in their first year of existence, last hoisting the trophy in 2020.
Jesús María Satrústegui holds the club record for most goals scored with 162. Alberto Górriz has the most appearances for La Real with 599 matches.
Real Sociedad’s youth program has produced FIFA World Cup winners Xabi Alonso and Antoine Griezmann. Other notable names who have graced the Erreala include Sebastián Abreu and Carlos Vela.
Due to their roots, La Real have a standing rivalry with Athletic Bilbao, their matchup known as the Basque derby.
