Elche CF are a Valencian football club based in the province of Alicante. They were formed in 1923 after all of the town’s clubs merged together.
Los Franjiverdes started at the Tercera División when the league system was instituted in 1929, and first played at the top flight in 1959. They have only been at La Liga a total of 23 seasons, with majority of their time spent at the Segunda División.
Elche are the only Spanish club to be relegated due to unpaid tax debts, going down to La Liga 2 in 2015. After languishing in the lower leagues the rest of the decade, they were promoted back to La Liga in 2020.
The closest Elche Club de Fútbol had to winning a trophy is finishing runner up at the Copa del Rey in 1969.
